Green Prescription and Be Active Programmes

Sport Canterbury staff work alongside Primary Health Organisations and local health professionals to deliver health and physical activity support for the wider community.

Sport Canterbury’s Physical Activity team supports being active as an opportunity to enhance physical and mental health as well as social well-being. Green Prescription provides support and motivation to increase physical activity levels in a way that is sustainable. Free clinics are run at a number of venues around Canterbury where participants talk through their current level of activity. They receive support to set realistic goals and develop an activity plan to suit individual needs. Our team works closely with community activity providers and encourages links with local activity groups.

Sport Canterbury’s Physical Activity team also delivers eight-week Be Active programmes – for people wanting to increase their level of activity and have fun along the way. These introductory opportunities are designed to be affordable, providing a supportive and friendly environment to try new activities.

For more information, please contact Sport Canterbury’s Physical Activity Team Leader, Anna Wilson, on 0800 ACTIVE (22 84 83) or visit Anna Wilson’s profile page on Sport Canterbury website.
